Scarnati Announces Special Election for the 24th Senatorial District

HARRISBURG—Lieutenant Governor Joe Scarnati announced today that a special election to fill the seat vacated by former State Senator Rob Wonderling will be held on September 29, 2009.

"Due to the many significant issues, such as transportation, healthcare, and possibly the budget, facing the Commonwealth at this time, it is vital that the citizens of the 24th District have Senate representation as soon as possible," Scarnati said.  "This date allows candidates due time to campaign and inform area residents of their position on these, as well as other important matters."

According to Scarnati, State Senator Rob Wonderling resigned his seat effective July 28, 2009 to take the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.

"Rob has been a tremendous asset to this institution during his tenure, and his presence in our chamber will be sorely missed," Scarnati added.  "He is not only a dedicated public servant, but a friend to many of us in the Senate, and I wish him nothing but success in his future endeavors."

"I am certain there will be many qualified candidates looking to be successful in winning the 24th Senatorial District seat and represent the citizens of this district in an honorable, effective manner," Scarnati concluded.  "With that said, the special election will be held on September 29, 2009."
