New Website Enables Applicants to Check Status of Property Tax Rent Rebates(HARRISBURG) -- Pennsylvania residents can now check the status of their Property Tax/Rent Rebates online, according to Senator Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson). Scarnati said the Department of Revenue hosts a new website www.papropertytaxrelief.com which will provide information on claim status, rebate amount and the date a rebate is expected to be mailed or direct-deposited. Six weeks after a resident has submitted a Property Tax/Rent Rebate application, he or she may visit the site by entering the following information:
Scarnati said the department will begin distributing checks on July 1, 2009, but applicants can use the online feature as soon as six weeks has passed from the application submission. "The website is a great way to provide information quickly to those who are waiting for rebates," he said. "I urge residents in my district to use this web tool." The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program provides property tax relief and rent rebates of up to $650 to many low-income senior citizens. "This Lottery-funded program -- one of the most successful operated by the state on behalf of senior citizens -- can be a substantial source of assistance to older people burdened by high rent or skyrocketing property taxes," Scarnati said. "Property taxes and rent are among the two biggest expenses for most families. This important program is one way that qualifying senior citizens can recoup some of their money.
