Local Airports to Receive Funding for Improvements

Four airports in the 25th Senatorial District will receive more than $868,000 in federal and state aviation funding to rehabilitate and upgrade facilities, according to Senator Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson).

"These small airports are key transportation hubs for our communities and this entire region," Scarnati said.  "They are also vital to creating quality jobs and improving our economy because they help to transport people and goods in and out of our area."

The following airports have received funding:

  • CLEARFIELD-LAWRENCE AIRPORT will receive $536,250 for the rehabilitation of the airport's electric system, electrical vault and rotating beacon.

  • PUNXSUTAWNEY MUNICIPAL AIRPORT will receive $175,987 for updating the Airport Master Plan.

  • ST. MARYS MUNICIPAL AIRPORT will receive $121,875 to crack seal and seal coat airport pavement to increase the pavement life cycle.

  • WELLSBORO-JOHNSTON AIRPORT will receive $34,125 to provide additional parking for airport users and visitors.

"These projects are important from a public safety perspective, and they will enable the airports to serve more people and air traffic," Scarnati said.  "Just like our roads, bridges and highways, our small airports are a crucial part of our infrastructure, and we must invest in them."
