For Immediate Release Local Organizations Receive Grants for Historic Preservation ProjectsFour organizations in Tioga and Warren Counties have been awarded $350,000 in state funding through the Keystone Historic Preservation Grant Program to rehabilitate several sites, according to Senator Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson). Scarnati said the funding comes from the Commonwealth's Keystone Recreation, Park and Conservation Fund. This fund was established by the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 1993 using revenue from the voter-approved sale of bonds and from a portion of the state realty transfer tax. "These grants are vital to rehabilitating and restoring local landmarks," Scarnati said. "They also help to promote economic development and improve our communities." The following organizations received grants in the most current round of funding Deane Center for the Performing Arts -- $90,000 -- The grant will be used to restore the former Davis Furniture storefronts in downtown Wellsboro. The project will bring more foot traffic to the commercial district and serve as a catalyst for economic development Tioga County Commissioners -- $85,000 -- The county will use the grant to craft a preservation project for the exterior of the County Courthouse. Board of Trustees, First United Methodist Church of Warren -- $85,000 – The grant will be used to help restore 80-year-old stained glass windows in the church's sanctuary. Warren Main Street -- $90,000 – Funding will be used to restore the historic façade details of two early 1900's buildings in the Warren Historic District. The buildings are a key part of the Arts Corridor of the Central Business District in the county seat of Warren. Keystone Historic Preservation Grants, which require a 50/50 cash match, are available for the preservation, restoration and/or rehabilitation of historic resources listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. The grants are administered on a competitive basis.
