Punxsutawney Borough Awarded State Recycling Grant

Punxsutawney Borough has been awarded a $5,254 recycling grant to expand its recycling efforts, according to Senator Joe Scarnati (R-Jefferson).

Scarnati said the grant was awarded through the state's Recycling Performance Grant Program, which provides incentives to help Pennsylvania communities increase the amount of materials recovered through recycling. The program also promotes economic growth in the Commonwealth through job creation and market expansion.

"This state grant program is important in helping communities reuse more material, which saves landfill space, protects our environment and helps to create new jobs," Scarnati said. "Recycling has been a huge success in Pennsylvania, and I am pleased we are encouraging greater participation and innovative new ways to reuse materials."

Scarnati said the state also provides grants to municipalities to establish and maintain recycling programs.
