Scarnati Announces Community Conservation Grants throughout the District 

Senator Joe Scarnati (R-25) announced today that several state grants from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) totaling more than $450,000 are headed to municipalities in the 25th District. 

"Our parks and recreation areas are a great place for families to relax, have fun and enjoy the beauty of our Commonwealth," Scarnati said. "This funding will go a long way toward preserving and enhancing that experience for generations." 

The grants are part of the Community Conservation Partnership Program, administered by DCNR's Bureau of Recreation and Conservation, aimed at providing local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts, and other nonprofits with financial and technical assistance to facilitate park, recreation, conservation and greenways projects. 

The list of grants includes (by county): 

Clearfield

  • $20,000 to Clearfield Borough for the renovation of Witmer Park, including reconstruction of the parking lot and boat ramp, installation of ADA access, docks, landscaping, sign and related site improvements.

  • $20,000 to DuBois City to prepare a Master Site Development Plan for the Sandy Lick Recreation Area, including exploration of trail linkages throughout DuBois.

Elk 

  • $25,860 to Jones Township for further development of the Community Park, including installation of walking paths, ADA access, fishing piers, landscaping, sign and related site improvements.

  • $29,500 to Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for a feasibility study to determine the scope, format and content of conservation education programs that could be offered on and off site at the Elk Country Wildlife Education Center, and to examine the feasibility of constructing an overnight facility on the Winslow Hill property.

  • $13,200 to St. Mary's City to prepare a Master Site Development Plan for Elk Creek Park to include stream stabilization and trail linkage assessments.

McKean 

  • $150,000 to Tuna Valley Trail Association for further development of a 1.4-mile segment of the Cook Farm Loop Trail, including trail and bridge construction, installation of ADA access, landscaping, sign and related site improvements.

Potter 

  • $12,500 to Coudersport Borough to study the feasibility of rehabilitating the Municipal Swimming Pool.

Tioga 

  • $106,000 to Wellsboro Borough for rehabilitation and further development of the Hamilton Lake Boat Launch to include construction of a boat ramp, dock, comfort station parking lot, installation of utilities, ADA access, signage, and related site improvements.

Warren 

  • $80,000 to Warren City for further development of Beaty Park to include construction of comfort facilities, installation of ADA access, utilities, play equipment with required safety surfacing, walkways, landscaping, sign, and related site improvements.
